Enter into force of new PED Directive 2014/68/EU

The new Pressure Equipment Directive will fully enter into force on 19 July 2016.

In respect of the article no. 48 of the Directive 2014/68/EU, the certificates issued in compliance with the previous Directive 97/23/CE (may 1997), will be in force unless expiration or modification of the standard, the calculus code and/or the project.

The manufacturer whom certification procedure has already started and not concluded must add to the documentation already supplied the EU Declaration of Conformity, written according to the annex IV of the new PED Directive. Without this document any certificate cannot be issued.

The Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) covers the design, manufacturing and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0.5 bar or 7.25 psig. An example of products covered by the PED Directive:

  • vessels;
  • industrial piping;
  • assemblies;
  • safety devices;
  • pressure accessories.

The manufacturer can affix the CE Mark to his own equipment after providing the technical construction file, which contains an appropriate risk analysis, obtained the EU certificate from a Notified Body (for equipment in category  II, III, IV) and written the EU Declaration of Conformity.

TÜV InterCert performs Conformity assessment and laboratory test to prove the full compliance of the product with the Directive PED 2014/68/EU and issues the EU Certificate according to the applied procedure/module.
